Avoid “Speechifying”
Speechifying
is what I call it
when the speech
is delivered in
the style of a bad
Shakespearian actor
– full of oratory
but not creating
an authentic connection
with the audience.
To create
that connection
you can replicate
(or create) the
state that you are
in when you are
talking to just
one person.
Create this state
by focussing on
individuals in the
audience and speak
with them as if
they are the only
person in the room
– then move on and
give the same attention
to someone else.
This way you’ll
take in everyone
in the room and
you’ll be speaking
in a warm, genuine
manner.
