Participant Questionnaire

The purpose of this questionnaire is to get some information about your experience and confidence in giving presentations so that we can tailor the course to meet your individual needs.

Most of the questions are multi-choice - if your answer is not the same as the choices provided please choose the closest answer and use the comments box to tell us more.

And please do use the comments boxes to tell us about your needs and issues and anything else that it might be useful for us to know.

Thinking about your experience as a presenter:
I present a lot of the time and consider myself quite experienced

I hardly present at all and have little experience
I've never presented before
 Comments:

Please describe the types of presentations you normally give.

Your feelings towards presenting:
I enjoy presenting and will generally say "Yes" when asked

I hate it and always will
 Comments:

How often do you get nervous?
Hardly ever
Occasionally - with important presentations or special audiences
I usually get nervous but not in every situation
I always get nervous whenever I present
 Comments:

Thinking about how long it takes you to plan a presentation:
I'm pretty efficient at preparing a presentation
It takes me longer than it should
I work hard at preparing and it takes me ages
I prepare minimally - I generally "wing" it
 Comments:

When I speak to my audience:
I come across as if I'm chatting to friends
I'm reasonably relaxed but you can tell I'm giving a presentation
I feel stiff and look stilted and overly careful
I rush and possibly appear a little out of control
 Comments:

How do you incorporate PowerPoint slides into your presentations:
I use slides for most of my presentation
I use a slide only if it will help the audience understand and remember the point I am making (be honest now!)
I think PowerPoint is totally overused and abused - so I don't use it
I don't know how to use PowerPoint - so I don't use it but I'd like to
 Comments:

In regard to your technical knowledge of PowerPoint:
I can use a lot of the PowerPoint functions eg: custom animation
I can create basic slides
I haven't a clue where to start
 Comments:

What specific issues would you like to work on during the course?

2. About being on a training course
Generally when I'm on a course:
I freely participate in discussions and activities
I contribute when I've something useful to say
I tend to hold back unless I'm specifically asked to contribute
I really dislike having to participate on courses
 Comments:

Attending this particular course:
I asked to come and I'm looking forward to learning new things
I asked to come and I'm feeling some apprehension
I was sent but I'm looking forward to learning new things
I was sent and I'd rather not be attending
 Comments:

(p) On the first day of the course you'll be designing a presentation. We mentioned in our e-mail that you can design a new presentation or do a makeover of an existing presentation, depending on which will have most value for you:
I'll be designing a new presentation
I'll be doing a makeover of an existing presentation
I'm having difficulty with this decision - please could you contact me
